KENNEDY AND RICHARDS WIN AS MAR-TRAIN YAMAHA LEAD THE STANDINGS IN THE BRITISH SUPERSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP

Jack Kennedy, riding for the Mar-Train Yamaha Team, successfully maintained his lead in the overall standings after the third round of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship protected by Datatag at Oulton Park after securing a win and a third place.

In the Sprint race Kennedy took his second victory of the season after a thrilling battle, crossing the line just ahead of Ben Wilson who snatched second place from Sam Warren following a dramatic final lap. Warren had fought for much of the race with Kennedy after the Yamaha rider led the opening laps and pushed his Seton Tuning Yamaha ahead before Kennedy snatched the lead back and led to the line.

The Feature race winner Glen Richards took the top step following a classic five-way scrap for supremacy that was sadly shortened by a red flag. Gearlink Kawasaki's Wilson took the lead off the line from Kennedy and Richards and by Island Bend the Australian was able to move ahead. Kennedy moved into the lead from Wilson at the end of the sixth lap. Richards then managed to charge ahead before Deane Brown crashed forcing the race to be red flagged and a result declared.

Kennedy said: "It was a great weekend all round. I qualified on pole and I think I posted the fastest ever Supersport lap around Oulton Park. I had a good battle with Sam Warren in the opening race so I was delighted to take the win. I was having another good battle in the second race and felt comfortable at the front, so to lose out with a red flag did make me feel as if I was robbed, but that’s the rules and I can’t complain. I’ve extended the championship lead so I can’t wait for Snetterton now."

Datatag’s Managing Director Kevin Howells said ‘It’s great to be involved with such a dramatic race series – both races this weekend were unbelievably close and I can’t get over how committed the riders are so early in the season – I really feel this is going to be a great year of racing.’
