Motorcycle Forensic Security Marking System

The UK's most trusted theft deterrent for your Motorbike.

"DATATAG PROTECTS - FOR LIFE!"

Tech Overview: UV Etch | Datadots® with DNA | RFID Transponders | Warning Labels

The Datatag motorcycle forensic security marking system has been in use since April 1992 and there are currently over 500,000 motorcycles protected by Datatag in the UK. The theft rate on these tagged machines is less than one tenth of the rate before Datatag was developed and because of the large number of tagged machines now around, the whole theft picture for bikes has changed for the better.

Based around electronic transponders that provide an electronic 'finger print' to key components, the system also uses 'stealth' chemical etching and includes 100s of Datadots® for minor components.

The best way to prevent your motorcycle being stolen in the first place is to have Datatag fitted when you buy the machine. Datatag's multi-layered electronic identification and anti-theft system enables the Police to identify the true owner of any Datatagged motorcycle, even if the number plate and standard identification numbers have been removed or changed.

Datatag has a fantastic success rate, and criminals are well aware that the CPS has never lost a court case in which Datatag has been used in evidence. As soon as thieves see the Datatag warning decals on your motorcycle they will usually leave it well alone and go looking for an easier target.

FAQs

Most Motorcycles are stolen to order by professional criminals. Even the latest alarms, immobilisers, tracking systems, chains and locks do not always deter criminals although the more measures you take - the better. It's therefore essential that all motorcycles and scooters are protected and registered with a Datatag Forensic Security Marking System. This is because the majority of machines stolen are stripped down into parts and sold off separately or the parts are used to build up another motorcycle which is then sold on complete, but cloned, to an unsuspecting buyer. Criminals know it's virtually impossible to defeat the multi-layered Datatag system and as such Datatagged assets become too risky.
The UV "stealth" etchings protect and deter theft of valuable fairings. The benefits of using UV etching is that the unique code and Datatag's 24/7 contact details are still permanently etched into the panels and fairings but now, because they are only visible under ultra violet light, don't deface the appearance of the Motorcycle - a perfect combination.
Datadots are transparent microscopic plastic discs (less than 1mm in diameter) printed with a unique alpha numeric code and listing Datatag's telephone number. There are hundreds within the system and they are applied in hidden places all over the vehicle. Only one is required to prove ownership therefore a thief would have to be 100% confident that they had found and removed every single one to avoid detection and prosecution.
No, these unique electronic transponders contain no 'working' parts and therefore neither wear out or need servicing. They are powered by, or "wake up", only when interrogated by the special Datatag scanners provided to the Police.
No, a Datatag system is designed to make it easier to identify the rightful owner of a stolen item once it has been recovered. It can not be used to physically track an item.
Since 1992, Datatag has distributed thousands of their scanners free of charge to all UK Police Forces including some in Europe to help combat crime and identify stolen property.
Yes, Datatag are accredited to the strictest database standards including ISO:9001 and LPS 1224 (The recognised standard for database security) and are a "Police Preferred Specification - Secured by Design" company accredited and supported by NPCC (National Police Chiefs Council) and the Home Office. Datatag do not share confidential data with anyone unless for security reasons - we may occasionally communicate with customers to keep information up to date, something which is critical in the fight against crime.
The Datatag membership is transferable, and for a small re-registration fee, the new keeper can have their name and address added to the secure Datatag database.
Please advise the Police immediately, then contact Datatag quoting your membership number and the crime report number the Police have given you, and we will flag a warning against your vehicle on our database.
